Five overlooked small business rules:

Make sure you really want to be in business. If your primary motivation is "money", then working for yourself isn't for you.
Your spouse (or similar) must be behind you. You will fail if they aren't (this book will show you how to get them to back your venture.)
In general terms, don't take business advice from anyone not successful in business.
You simply must advertise. There is no getting around this fact. Homemade business cards and flyers do not count.
Forget funding - you won't be getting any. You're going to need to get creative instead.
